Davis Centre sale and silent auction a great success

May 26 dawned fine and warm which spelled success for the annual sale and silent auction at the Davis longterm care Centre in Bolton. The event was under the active and enthusiastic direction of Pearl Auer, president of the Helping Hands Volunteers and Helen Banna, supervisor of volunteer services for the Davis Centre. Some 20 volunteers worked from early morning preparing for opening time and then serving the steady flow of customers throughout the day.

There was a fine selection of second-hand goods and trade was brisk. The bake sale featured a mouth-watering selection including a variety pies, cakes, cookies, fruit breads, muffins and other delicious goodies. Barbequed snacks were also on sale.

The silent auction included a wide range of some 30 donated quality items and bidding was brisk throughout the day and realized $1,343. The total sum raised during the day from all sources was more than $3,000.

Organizers are deeply indebted to everyone who donated items for the sales and in particular the very generous support of the following organizations: Home Hardware, Husky Injection Molding Systems Ltd., Zehrs Markets, Wal- Mart, Glen Echo Nurseries Inc, Cedars Hills Pontiac Buick Cadillac GMC Inc., Garden Foods Ltd., The Angry Tomato, Flowers Just Because, CIBC, Bolton Toyota, Stage West, Andrea Tucker Design and Skylark Framing and Fine Art.

The monies raised are used to supplement programs, outings and special events for residents and adult day programs. Such programs and events include entertainment, Christmas party, gifts for residents, birthday parties and flower arrangements for the dining room. Of course the Helping Hands Volunteers are involved in assisting in these activities and can be seen regularly visiting residents, helping with crafts, baking, feeding residents, helping on trips, assisting at bingo, playing cards with residents and minding the centre store, which is a substantial fundraiser to support the volunteer efforts.

Additional volunteers are always needed and will be warmly welcomed. Any interested persons should call Pearl Auer at 905-951- 0701 or Helen Banna at 905-857-0975.
