Watson property of heritage value The Joseph Watson property at 45 Nancy St. in Bolton was recently deemed by Caledon council to be worthy of heritage designation. Council directed staff to proceed with the notice of intention to designate. Council's decision came after Heritage Caledon concluded this property is of cultural heritage value and interest. Heritage designation of this property provides formal recognition of its significance as a cultural heritage resource, protection against inappropriate alteration or demolition, and eligibility for heritage funding programs. Built around 1885, the Joseph Watson house is an excellent example of High Victorian Gothic architecture, displaying a higher degree of detailing than other buildings of this style in Bolton. The house was constructed by prominent local builder George Watson for his brother Joseph, a retired farmer and carpenter. The property has been owned since 1963 by Mary and Hugh Phelan. |
