Mayfield honours top athletes

At the Mayfield Athletic Banquet, the top awards went to (front row, l to r) Jane Kirby, Senior Female Athlete of the Year; Kristoph Klein-Panneton, Senior Male Athlete of the Year; Madelaine Hill, Junior Female Athlete of the Year; (back row, l to r) Cailin Hillier, Spirit Award; Jenn Wilson, Merit Award and R.C. Honey Leadership Award; and Kara McWatters, Merit Award.
The feats of Mayfield's top athletes were recognized Thursday at the school's annual athletic banquet.

Senior Male

Athlete of the Year

Kristoph Klein- Panneton was named Senior Male Athlete of the Year. He was most valuable player in senior boys football and senior boys rugby, and most improved player in senior boys nordic skiing. He was also copresident of the Mayfield Athletic Association and a senior athletic letter recipient.

Also nominated for Senior Male Athlete of the Year were Jeff Caudle, Jake Geale, Kelsey Krushel, Danny Mulhern, Mark Olesen-Varnell, Hudson Reddon and Trevor Wilson.

Senior Female

Athlete of the Year

Jane Kirby was selected as Senior Female Athlete of the Year. She was most valuable player in flag football and senior girls rugby.

Other nominees for Senior Female Athlete of the Year were Sam Jensen, Melissa Johnson, Nicole McClure, Kara McWatters, Lauren Prufer, Amie Sheppard, Teresa Valiquette and Jenn Wilson.

Junior Male

Athlete of the Year

Taylor Stephens got the nod as Junior Male Athlete of the Year. He was most improved player in junior boys volleyball and boys baseball.

Also nominated for Junior Male Athlete of the Year were Stephen Alli, Matt Brown, Kevin Caudle, Matt Olesen-Varnell and Taylor Reid.

Junior Female

Athlete of the Year

Madelaine Hill was chosen as Junior Female Athlete of the Year. She was most valuable player in junior girls cross-country running and junior girls track and field.

Also nominated for Junior Girls Athlete of the Year were Dakota Edwards, Dana Jensen, Natasha Klein- Panneton, Krista Ruby, Julie Sheppard, Jordan Steele, Jaime Trueland, Julie Truong and Olivia Turley.

Spirit Award

The Spirit Award was presented to a member of the MAA who has contributed in all aspects to the development of sports, enthusiasm and sportsmanship in school.

Cailin Hillier was this year's recipient.

Merit Award

Two girls shared the Merit Award presented to a member of the MAA who has made an outstanding contribution to athletics through organization and participation in MAA activities. This year's recipients were Kara McWatters and Jenn Wilson.

R.C. Honey

Leadership Award

Candidates for the R.C. Honey Leadership Award must be involved in the athletic program at Mayfield. This award is peer nominated by members of the MAA and is the only award chosen by fellow athletes. Jenn Wilson won this year's award.
