MP hosts child care expo

David Tilson, MP for Dufferin-Caledon, hosted a Child Care Information Expo May 23 at the Caledon Seniors' Centre, in Bolton.

Tilson invited special guest speakers from some of Caledon's most recognized organizations including the Caledon Parent-Child Centre, Caledon Community Services, and the Pumpkin Patch Nursery School and Child Care Centre.

The organizations gave overviews of the many programs and services each provides to families and children here in Caledon. The Pumpkin Patch Nursery School and Child Care Centre also discussed the many things parents should look for when selecting a child care facility for their child.

Local residents came out to participate in the forum and posed questions to the various guest speakers ranging from violence prevention programs, child support, child care, crisis issues, counseling, and parenting workshops.

Rogers Television was also present at the forum and filmed the presentations, to be aired at a later date on local television, as a public service.

"This is the first child care information expo that I have hosted. Child care is a very important and challenging issue for families in our community. Many parents do not know what's available to them, as well as the many outstanding social service organizations here in Caledon. It is my hope that after tonight, more families will be aware of what's out there with respect to programs and services to assist them," Tilson said.
