Safe Kids Week May 28 to June 3 Drowning is the second leading cause of the unintentional death of children under age 14. The Town of Caledon Fire & Emergency Services Department will focus on drowning prevention during Safe Kids Week, from May 28 through June 3. Presented in co-operation with Safe Kids Canada - a national injury prevention program of The Hospital for Sick Children - this annual national campaign raises public awareness about children's safety issues every spring. This year, the objective of Safe Kids Week this year is to educate parents and caregivers about water safety. "Drowning happens quickly and quietly, as young children often just slip under the water," said fire chief Brad Bigrigg. "Supervision is critical to keeping kids safe around water - whether in a pool, a lake, or even in the bath." Please join them at one of the following pool locations to learn more about water safety, and enter a draw to win a lifejacket: * Caledon Centre for Recreation & Wellness, 14111 Hwy. 50. * Caledon Central Pool, 18355 Kennedy Road. * Mayfield Recreation Complex, 12087 Bramalea Road. Public swim times during Safe Kids Week can be found at www.caledon.ca. The campaign is sponsored by Johnson & Johnson. Safe Kids Canada can be reached at 1-888-SAFETIPS or www.safekidscanada. ca. |
