Optimist Club emphasizes need for respect for the law The Optimist Club of Caledon hopes to instil a strong respect for law in local children during Respect for Law Week, May 20-26. Through the club's Respect for Law event, the club will present prizes for a poster contest run by the Alton Scouting group as part of their own Respect for Law program. Honoured guests will include local OPP officers and the event will take placed at a special dinner meeting at Knox United Church in Caledon village. "We believe it is important for children to grow up with a strong belief in abiding by the law, respecting law enforcement and doing what they can to maintain peace," said club president Jim Richardson. "We hope that our project with the local students will help in this effort." The Optimist Club of Caledon has been participating in Respect for Law for 23 years and has been active in the community since 1984. Other programs and service projects the club is involved in include the Christmas tree lighting in Caledon village, essay contests, Childfind at the Strawberry Festival, children's initiatives, pumpkin carving and the haunted house. |
