Oliver with a Twist!

Students and teachers at Herb Campbell Public School have taken on an immense task of producing the musical Oliver Twist. The show has been renamed Oliver With a Twist because of the personal touches from students and teachers.

The Community School Association generously supported this initiative to offer an artistic venue as an extracurricular activity for students to explore new talents and interests. The production was a great occasion to use the new drama facilities in the newest part of the building, because the school is part of the Teaching with Technology Initiative with PDSB. Producers continued to extend the use of technology by making use of 3 LCD projectors, a DVD camcorder, 2 computers and PowerPoint software during performances.

Through May 8 and 9 students viewed the show after paying their admissions with a canned good. The students collected a total of 800 cans of food and it will all be donated to St. Louise Outreach Centre in Brampton. Students chose to give to this food bank because more than threequarters of the school population is from Brampton.

The students involved are in grades 2 through 8. The cast, choir, dancers, volunteers and technicians included roughly 140 people! Carly Fowler, a dancer stated; "All the hard work has finally paid off."

Parents from the community and teachers have been very supportive and have given a lot of their time to allow Oliver with a Twist to be such a successful endeavor.
