The provincial government transferred 10 key green spaces to communities across Ontario. The properties contain a range of significant natural values, including wetlands, hardwood forests, environmentally sensitive areas, and unique ravines and trail systems.
Credit Valley Conservation was one of several beneficiaries and received two important properties in Brampton and Mississauga. In Brampton, the Credit River cuts through this 19-acre sensitive wetland and lowlying property located north of Highway 407 and south of the CPR rail line. In Mississauga, the three-acre site of environmentally sensitive valley land along Mullet Creek, consists of two properties on either side of Burnamthorpe Road, just east of Mississauga Road.
"Credit Valley Conservation is excited to be receiving land from the Ontario government," said Pat Mullin, CVC chair and City of Mississauga councillor. "These lands will contribute to our vision of a linked corridor of green along the Credit River. In light of the anticipated challenges facing our watershed due to climate change, CVC commends the province for its recognition of the vital role greenspace plays in maintaining a healthy environment for all. CVC commits to working co-operatively with the Region of Peel and all our community partners to ensure the long term protection of these greenspaces."
