Celebrating Peel's paramedics during week

Peel's Regional paramedics responded to over 70,000 emergencies in 2006. Paramedic Week, from May 20 to 26, celebrates the work our paramedics do 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year and recognizes their commitment to the health and safety of the Peel community.

"Peel Regional paramedics provide patients the best pre-hospital care," said Peter Dundas, director of Paramedic and Emergency Services (PRPS) at the Region. "They are dedicated professionals who are committed to the wellbeing of our residents."

Throughout the week, there are a number of events residents can attend:

* EMS Day - Meet paramedics and tour emergency vehicles from services across the GTA May 20 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Yonge and Dundas Square in Toronto.

* CPR Clinic - Register for free adult CPR training on May 24 in Brampton from 6-9 p.m. Call 905-791- 7800, ext. 3951.

* Car Seat Clinic - Book an appointment to have a paramedic install or inspect your car seat May 25 in Brampton from 1-5 p.m. Call 905-791-7800, ext. 3951 to book an appointment.

* Community Day - Meet paramedics and tour an emergency vehicle at Brampton's Heart Lake Conservation Area during the Peel Children's Water Festival May 26 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

"Residents can help ensure the health and safety of other Peel residents by moving to right side of the road when paramedics are responding to an emergency," said Councillor Palleschi, chair of the emergency protective services committee. "They can also help by using the 9- 1-1 service for emergencies only."

Peel Regional Paramedics remind motorists to move their vehicles to the right of the road and stop when an emergency vehicle with lights and sirens on is approaching. Every second spared can help save a life. Ontario legislation also requires residents to move over one lane if they see an emergency vehicle parked on the shoulder of the road.
