Hike along the moraine

Wednesday, May 16, members of the Oak Ridges Trail Association will take part in a hike that represents the western commencement of a series of hikes that will cover the entire 206-kilometre Oak Ridges Moraine Trail.

After assembling in King township, at a point that will mark the conclusion of the day's hike, the hikers will arrive at the Mill Pond in Palgrave at approximately 10 a.m. to begin the 17- kilometre walk.

Over the next number of months, weekly Wednesday hikes will cover the entire trail in 16 segments. The final hike will be in the fall.

The Oak Ridges Moraine Trail commences in Palgrave on the Caledon Trailway at Highway 50. It is here that it links to the Bruce Trail. Heading east from this point, the trail leaves Peel Region, following the Oak Ridges Moraine through the regions of York and Durham, as well as Northumberland County.

This is just one of more than 200 hikes conducted by the association each year.

Everyone is welcome to view the hike schedule at www.oakridgestrail.org.
