Mayor's Report
Mayor urges Caledon residents to shop locally
By Marolyn Morrison

Throughout the Town of Caledon, we have some very talented local artisans, musicians, various superb chefs, and local business owners who care about our community.

As your mayor, it is important that I highlight all the wonderful things that Caledon has to offer. Many Ontarians travel through Caledon to visit our scenic landscape and shop in our unique stores.

As Caledon residents, we too, need to do our part and shop locally. From buying a car to a picture frame, it can all be done here! If you want all the amenities to stay within our community, then we must buy their products.

I encourage you to take a drive to one of our communities and explore the various shops and parks. I can guarantee that you will be surprised by what you find. Every community in Caledon has something to offer so hop on your bicycle or take a stroll through your community's downtown.

For information on where to buy local produce and greenery this summer, visit GrownInPeel.ca. This Web site provides a detailed map consisting of greenhouses, produce farms/orchards and wineries. Did you know that Caledon is home to two wineries? Award-winning Downey Estate Winery on Heart Lake Road (North of Mayfield) and Chesslawn Vineyards & Winery on Castlederg Sideroad (West of Regional Road 50). Many farms even offer pick your own opportunities for various berries and apples. Buying foods from local farms helps our local economy and aids in creating local jobs.

Caledon is also home to some of the most spectacular golf courses. From private courses like The Devil's Pulpit, to a ClubLink Course (Caledon Woods) to public greens like Glen Eagle, Osprey Valley, Mayfield, Banty's Roost or Caledon Country Club, enjoy the great outdoors and try out your game. Many of these clubs have talented pros who offer lessons. Caledon's own LPGA Class A Member, Sandra Post has her golf school located at Glen Eagle.

From specialty boutiques to antique markets, Caledon has them all.

And food, we have some of the best dining. No need to make those reservations in Toronto, stay close to home and try out a local restaurant in your area. There is Greek, Italian, Thai, Chinese, Sushi and more. There are also the beautifully scenic restaurant inns, nestled in our communities' quaint villages such as the Terra Cotta Inn, Belfountain Inn, Cataract Inn and the Caledon Inn. Try the Millcroft, where you can indulge in more then fine dining and take the day to treat yourself to the spa.

There are more than 1,500 prosperous companies in Caledon and that number is growing. Explore Caledon today! Shop Caledon!
