Caledon Cycling Club begins a new season

This time of year, many consider taking up a new sport to help keep them active and healthy. If you're looking for something that's a little more adventurous, then you may want to consider the Caledon Cycling Club. This time of year they have a membership drive as they prepare for the start of their season that runs through late September.

The Caledon Cycling Club was created in 1998 specifically for mountain bike riders and it is one of the largest mountain bike clubs in Canada. They have more than 250 members who range in age from 12 to 70, with the average age being about 40. Their location in the Caledon area offers the members quick access to a large network of local mountain bike trails, which include the Trans Canada Trail, Albion Hills Conservation Area and several private trails that the club has built on approved land.

Besides offering group rides, the club also organizes bicycle races, social events and they work with private property owners and municipalities to provide trail building and promote bicycle advocacy.

The club has two weekly rides, which are organized into different levels according to rider ability. Each ride lasts about two hours and covers between 15 to 30 kilometres. The Monday night rides originate from Belfountain at 6:30 p.m. and are designed for riders from all ability levels. The Wednesday rides rotate between Palgrave, Albion Hills, Inglewood and Caledon East. These rides are for the more experienced rider and the trails tend to be more advanced.

The benefit of a riding with a large club is that there are enough people to ensure that every ride will include cyclists with abilities similar to yours. Whether you are a beginner rider or an expert racer, you will comfortably fit into one of the six ride levels without feeling that you are too fast or too slow. New riders and lower level riders can enjoy riding with people at a slower pace, and experienced riders can be assured of a challenging environment.

Joining the Caledon Cycling Club could be the best idea you've had in a long time. It could change your life. An annual membership costs$30. per person and the family rate is $90.
