Caledon woman travels to Africa to fight AIDS Former resident Kennedy (Cathy) MacKinnon (Humberview/Cawthra Park, Peel School of the Arts 1982-89) has been working as the artistic director of Shakespeare Link Canada and on The Africa Project: Dance with Us, Not with AIDS since 2005. This year marks her second venture to Quelimane, Mozambique to work with Montes Namuli, the foremost traditional song and dance company in Zambezia Province. Shakespeare Link Canada has been working in collaboration with Montes Namuli to build performances focusing on HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention. In July 2007 they will make their second play in Mozambique. Quelimane has the second highest rate of infection (33%) in Mozambique. A state of emergency has recently been declared in Quelimane due to severe flooding leaving thousands homeless and destitute. Sunday, May 13 is the 3rd annual Dance with Us, Not with AIDS Fund-raiser at The Great Hall (1087 Queen St. West at Dovercourt) at 7 p.m. Shakespeare Link Canada is proud to announce their Third Annual Dance with Us, Not with AIDS Fund-raiser at The Great Hall (1087 Queen St. West at Dovercourt) in support of their ongoing work in Quelimane Mozambique with Companhia de Cante e Danca Montes Namuli. The evening will include live music, dance, documentary screening, a silent auction, cocktail reception, door prizes and cash bar.
