Region of Peel announces program funding

Peel regional council has approved multi-year and one-year grants totaling $1,655,211 for 44 non-profit community organizations across Peel to help them meet the Region's growing and complex needs.

The grants are awarded through the Community Programs Fund which provides financial support to non-profit social service agencies and agricultural organizations that contribute to the community's health, social well-being and safety. The 2007 funding will assist agencies and organizations in servicing youth, seniors, parents and families, individuals with disabilities, newcomers, persons with mental illness and individuals in crisis.

Agencies receiving Regional funds are required to complete a funding agreement and to provide a yearend report on their services and activities.

Agencies receiving oneyear program funding for 2007 include:

Brampton Caledon Community Living, funding the Adults Developing and Participating Together (ADAPT) program; Carefirst Senior & Community Services, funding for an Elder Abuse Prevention Program for the Chinese Community; Family Association for Mental Health, funding for the Fameshare program; Mississauga Crime Prevention Association, funding for the Crossroads Youth Academy program; Muslim Community Services, funding for the Building Inter-generational Bridges program; Our Place Peel, funding for the Youth Opportunities project; St. John Ambulance, funding the Adult Injury Prevention program.

Agencies receiving multiyear operating funding for 2007 include:

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Peel; Boys and Girls Club of Peel; Brampton Multicultural Centre; Brampton Neighbourhood Resource Centre; Brampton Safe City; Caledon Community Services; Caledon Dufferin Victim Services; Caledon Parent Child Centre; Canadian Mental Health Association of Peel; Canadian Red Cross, Peel Branch; Catholic Family Services Peel - Dufferin; Carmel Heights Homes for the Aged; The Dam Youth Drop-in Centre; Distress Centre Peel; Dixie Bloor Neighbourhood Centre; Family Education Centre; Family Services of Peel; Foodpath Interfaith Peel Association to Tackle Hunger; Inter-Cultural Neighbourhood Social Services; Malton Neighbourhood Services; Nexus Youth Services; Peel Committee Against Women Abuse; Peel Multicultural Council; Rapport Youth & Family Services; Regeneration Outreach Community; Schizophrenia Association of Ontario, Peel Branch; Streetsville Neighbourhood Assistance Program; Telecare Distress Centre; Victim Services of Peel; Vita Manor Centre.

Agricultural organizations include:
