Community cleanup this weekend
By ALAN LICZYK Staff Reporter

The Caledon Chamber of Commerce, Town of Caledon and Tim Hortons will team up later this week for the third annual Community Cleanup Days.

Kelly Darnley, president and chief executive officer of the Caledon Chamber of Commerce, and Brad Stafford, co-owner of Tim Hortons in Bolton, informed Caledon council last Tuesday that the cleanups will be held this Friday and Saturday, May 11-12.

Friday will be the corporate and business challenge. Businesses are encouraged to clean up their properties and any adjacent parkland.

Saturday will be the Community Cleanup Day. Families are encouraged to come out to Edelweiss Park in Bolton to clean up the litter in the surrounding area. Volunteers can register between 9:30 a.m. and 10 a.m. to get their cleanup assignment and equipment. The event officially kicks off at 10 a.m. with a message from council. Coffee, juice and Timbits will be served and the first 200 individuals to register will receive cleanup T-shirts and gloves. A free appreciation barbecue will be held in the park from noon to 1 p.m.

Mayor Marolyn Morrison said Tim Hortons doesn't get enough recognition for what it does in the community.

Councillor Nick deBoer said the event has always been a good success. He added they will also be cleaning up the Humber Valley Heritage Trail.

Councillor Annette Groves noted the Bolton Business Improvement Area and Kinsmen Club of Bolton also do annual cleanups to make the community more beautiful.
