Youth Arts Day at museum

Some of the best and brightest young artists in the local area are featured in Youth Arts Day 2007, an energetic day of music, workshops and visual arts Saturday, May 12 at the Dufferin County Museum and Archives (DCMA). The DCMA is located at the corner of Airport Rd. and Hwy. 89, near Rosemont.

The event, which is copresented by the Headwaters Arts Festival, kicks off at 10:30 a.m. with musical entertainment featuring the Orangeville Christian School band and dancers, the Shelburne Youth Choir and a musical trio of Rosanna Lane-Smith, Kiara Leers and Cassidy Morrison (coached by Hannah Campbell of Acoustic Traditions in Orangeville).

Budding artists can try their hand at art-making at either the Make-a-Card for Mother's Day drop-in workshop (10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.) or pre-register for the afternoon (1 to 2 p.m.) children's workshop led by Kathleen Heron of Kids Can Do, Orangeville. The afternoon workshop is $5 per child; pre-register by calling Kids Can Do at 519- 942-1470.

At 2 p.m., the best-ofthe best youth artists will be honoured with cash prizes at the Student Art Show Awards. The Student Art Show features the very best teen artists from area schools and continues to June 17. The creativity of local elementary students will also be on display as part of the Kidsfest Art Show, which continues to Sunday (Mother's Day).

A BBQ lunch, supported by Dairy Queen Orangeville, will be available for a nominal fee; proceeds go to support youth arts in the Headwaters area.

Youth Arts Day 2007 is presented by the Headwaters Arts Festival and the Dufferin County Museum and Archives. The event is sponsored by Wayne Baguley and Royal Lepage RCR Realty, and The Millcroft Inn and Spa.
