Alloa school hosts arts and craft show fund-raiser Alloa Public School, located at 1248 Mayfield Rd. (just east of Mississauga Rd.), will be hosting an arts and craft show May 12, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The school is raising funds for the purchase and installation of playground equipment, and will have in addition to the show, a 50/50 draw and refreshments available for purchase. Admission to the show is free. Alloa Public School, established in 1962, has undergone a recent facelift, where many necessary upgrades were made to the interior of the aging school, and a new septic system was put in place. It will undergo a much larger modification in the near future when the temporary addition and the portables are removed, and replaced with a new addition. Staff believes in creating healthy environments for the students, in which they can interact with others in a positive and influential way - both inside and outside. The installation of playground equipment, including painted asphalt games, sports equipment and traditional playground toys, are all a means of creating such an environment, in which students can form healthy relationships with each other. This is the driving force behind the fund-raiser, and organziers are happy to have Caledon Mayor Marolyn Morrison, Caledon Regional Councillor Allan Thompson, and Brampton City Councillor John Hutton join them for a ribbon cutting to the event. The council at Alloa has made a large commitment to purchase all the equipment for the future playground, which will cost an estimated $25,000 or more. Council raises funds throughout the year with pizza days, as well as a fall fund-raiser selling QSP. The playground fund is only one of many things that council provides for and will continue to provide for. The money raised by the arts and craft show will be specifically set aside for use only on the purchase of playground equipment. Alloa is looking forward to seeing all its neighbours come out and support them in this cause, by viewing some great artists and picking up one or two of the wonderful items they have available for purchase. They are still accepting applications from potential vendors, and welcome all mediums of art, and styles of artists.
