Many charges laid from seat belt campaign

Caledon OPP officers responded to 22 property damage and five personal injury collisions during the week of April 16-22.

High Miler

of the Week

Monday, April 16, at about 12:22 p.m., Caledon OPP officer Bernier observed a motor vehicle travelling at an extreme high rate of speed on Highway 10 near Charleston Sideroad. Christopher Boussoulas, 21, of Caledon was charged with Speeding-134 km/h in an 80- km/h posted zone. Court date for the 54-kilometre over charge is set for May 24.

Traffic

Wednesday, April 18, police following up on a complaint of a vehicle driving erratically, conducted a vehicle stop on Mississauga Road near Olde Base Line Road. The driver, 52-yearold Ludwik Kolodziej of Caledon was charged with Drive Disqualified and his vehicle was seized under the Vehicle Impoundment Program. He was held for a bail hearing April 19.

Spring Seat Belt

Campaign

Caledon officers continued their efforts to raise awareness of the importance of wearing seat belts as well as proper use of child restraints in vehicles during the spring campaign, which wrapped up April 30.

During the first week of the campaign, Caledon officers have laid more than 250 seat belt related charges and two charges regarding child seat offences.

The Highway Traffic Act states that infants under the weight of 9 kg (20 lbs.) must be secured in a rear-facing infant seat, toddlers between the weights of 9 to 18 kg (20 to 40 lbs.) shall be secured in a forward-facing car seat and children between the 18 kg and 36 kg (40-80 lbs.) with a standing height less than 145 cm (4'9") or under the age of eight years shall be seated in a booster seat.

Child Car Seat Tips

Keep children away from all active air bags. Children younger than 13 years are safest in the back seat.

Kneel on the child car seat to push it in to the vehicle seat, tighten and fasten the seat belt to secure the child seat.

Make sure all harness straps are tight when securing the child into the car seat. Only one finger should fit between the harness strap and the child's collarbone. Check the harness strap each and every time you place the child in the seat.

Never use a car seat that has been in a motor vehicle collision or a seat, which is more than 10 years old or older than the manufacturer's expiry date.

Alcohol & Driving

Monday, April 16, a motor vehicle collision on King Road near Innis Lake Road resulted in charges for the driver. Wolfgang Ballmann, 56, of Brampton, was charged with Impaired Driving and Drive Motor Vehicle-Over 80 mgs. Of Alcohol in 100 mls. Of Blood. He will appear in court May 17.

Thursday, April 19, a traffic stop on Albion-Vaughan Road near King Street in Bolton resulted in the arrest of the driver. Shazad Sesook, 32, of Etobicoke, was charged with Impaired Driving, Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Failure to Provide Breath Sample, Fail to Comply with Recognizance and Drive While Under Suspension. He was held for a bail hearing April 19.

Thursday, April 19, a motor vehicle collision between a tractor-trailer and a car on Holland Drive near Coleraine Drive resulted in charges for the driver of the car. Stefano Passera, 35, of Caledon was charged with Impaired Driving, Drive Motor Vehicle-Over 80 mgs. Of Alcohol in 100 mls. Of Blood, Dangerous Operation and Driving While Under Suspension. Court date has been set for May 17.

Friday, April 20, 53-yearold Robert Waytowich of Brampton was charged following a vehicle stop on Airport Road. He will appear in court May 31, charged with Drive Motor Vehicle- Over 80 mgs. of Alcohol in 100 mls. Of Blood.

Saturday, April 21, a traffic enforcement vehicle stop at the Highway 9 and Highway 10 intersection led to the arrest of the driver. Donald Braithwaite, 44, of Port Perry, was charged with Drive Motor Vehicle-Over 80 mgs. Of Alcohol in 100 mls. Of Blood and Drive While Under Suspension. He will appear in court May 31.

Sunday, April 22, police responded to a single motor vehicle collision on King Street near Chickadee Lane at about 8:50 p.m. The driver of the vehicle was subsequently arrested. Douglas Gray, 37, of Tottenham, was charged with Impaired Driving, Drive Motor Vehicle-Over 80 mgs. Of Alcohol in 100 mls. Of Blood and Possession of a Controlled Substance- Marijuana. Court date has been set for May 21.

Sunday, April 22, police responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Coleraine Drive near Mayfield Road. The driver of the vehicle was charged with Impaired Driving, Drive Motor Vehicle-Over 80 mgs. Of Alcohol in 100 mls. Of Blood. Ezequiel Barragan, 29, of Caledon will appear in court May 24.

Assault Monday, April 16, one male was charged criminally after confronting another male at a residential property on St. Andrew's Road in Caledon. Norbert Both, 44, of Brampton, was charged with Assault, Utter Threats to Cause Death or Bodily Harm and Breach of Probation. He was held for a bail hearing April 17.

Mischief

Tuesday, April 17, a female driver reports she was travelling southbound on Regional Road 50, south of King Street when the driver's side mirror was struck by an egg that was thrown from a northbound vehicle. The impact of the egg cracked the side mirror and broke from its mounting.

Sunday, April 22, damages were caused to a vehicle left parked on William Street during the evening hours. The front hood was dented as well as one of the wheel wells.

Sunday, April 22, during the afternoon hours, a rear passenger side window of a vehicle parked at a Taylorwood Avenue home in Bolton was smashed by a small stone.

Friday, April 13, a vehicle parked at a residence on Coolsprings Crescent in Bolton was vandalized sometime over the previous day or night. The front windshield had been smashed.

Saturday, April 14, a vehicle parked overnight at a Riverwood Terrace residence was entered. It's not known what was taken from the vehicle at this time.

Sunday, April 15, a window of a King Street residence was smashed sometime overnight. Entry to the home was not made.
