Dufferin-Caledon Liberals hold town halls hosted by candidate Crease

Skid Crease, federal Liberal candidate, will be hosting a series of exciting town hall meetings within the riding of Dufferin- Caledon to discuss the issues that are affecting the citizens.

The first meeting will take place Tuesday, May 8 with the topic, The Great Income Trust Flip-Flop.

October 31, 2006, the Finance Minister Jim Flaherty reversed his government's position and placed a 31.5 % tax hike on income trusts. This decision to tax income trusts has wiped more than $25 billion in savings overnight and broke a key Stephen Harper campaign promise. As a result of attending John McCallum's town hall meeting on the income trusts in Toronto April 20, Crease was moved to bring Brent Fullard, president and CEO of the Canadian Association of Income Trust Investors to Dufferin-Caledon to address the concerns of citizens here.

Fullard has spent 20 years in the Canadian securities industry, most recently as executive managing director and head of equity capital markets for a major bank-owned dealer. Prior to that he worked in the Canadian oil and gas industry and the Canadian automotive industry. Brent has an MBA from Queen's University and a B.Sc. from the University of Toronto.

"Basically, we're creating a town hall opportunity for citizens to hear from the person who uncovered the income trust fiasco, tried to get government to explain their position, and finally exposed the government's fiscal mismanagement," said Crease. "I was shocked at the Friday, April 20 income trust meeting in Toronto at the number of seniors who came to the microphones to tell their stories. Stories of having worked for 35 years and invested in income trusts and RRSPs like the government encouraged them to, only to have their trust broken. In the years when they had planned to enjoy the fruits of their labours, their retirement incomes were destroyed. Family after family told how the last five months (since Flaherty's Halloween trick) had seen them selling almost everything they owned just to pay the bills."

Please join Brent Fullard and Skid Crease May 8 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Caledon Community Complex, 6215 Old Church Road, Caledon East.
