Peel to host first green home and garden expo If you haven't heard already, green is in and the Region of Peel is doing its part by hosting the first Peel Green Home and Garden Expo Saturday, May 5 at the Powerade Centre in Brampton. The show, which runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., will feature a variety of vendors, workshops and programs that will help residents conserve natural resources, save money, and lessen their impact on the environment. "We all have a collective responsibility toward the environment," said chair Emil Kolb. "At the municipal level, we aim to provide as many opportunities for residents to learn how to conserve. For many, the idea of green is new and what better way to encourage environmental responsibility than by organizing a show that assembles all the necessary resources in one place." Attendees will have the opportunity to learn from experts in a series of informative and interactive workshops about gardening, toilet replacement, ecological renovations, renewable energy and irrigation systems. Exhibitors will showcase energy efficient products for the home, water conservation tools, gardening products, home heating and cooling systems, healthy eating, locally grown food sources, fuel-efficient vehicles, community environmental stewardship and more. "From environmental enthusiasts to those just learning about conservation, there's something for everyone at the Peel Green Home and Garden Expo, including games and activities for children," said Elaine Moore, Brampton regional councillor and chair of the public works section of general committee. "The Expo is also a good opportunity for residents to learn ways to prepare their homes for the rebates introduced by the federal government earlier this year." The Peel Green Home and Garden Expo is sponsored in part by Enbridge, Hydro One Brampton, the Ontario Clean Water Agency, Norseman Plastics and EnWise Power Solutions.
