Town staff to study north hill supermarket Town staff will begin a study to find the most appropriate location for a supermarket to serve the Bolton north hill. Since there are no sites available within the Bolton settlement boundary to accommodate a supermarket, an expansion of the settlement boundary will be required. Such an expansion will require a regional official plan amendment and a local OPA. Senior policy planner Kathie Kurtz told council there are few landowners interested in supporting a supermarket. Wyndcliffe Developments Inc., Caledon Garden Gallery Inc. and Sorrento Developments Ltd. have requested commercial designations near Regional Road 50 and Columbia Way. Wyndcliffe has proposed a 40,000-square-foot supermarket while Caledon Garden Gallery has proposed a food store. The Town of Caledon is also considering converting its public works yard west of Regional Road 50 for commercial uses. In their report to council, Town planners recommended delaying the opening of another supermarket in south Bolton to allow a north hill supermarket to become established. At the south end of Bolton, Penretail Management Ltd. is proposing developing a 17-acre site at the southwest corner of Regional Road 50 and Healey Road into a 200,000- square-foot shopping centre that includes a home improvement store, a supermarket and a restaurant. Primary access will be from Healey Road, with a right-in and right-out from Regional Road 50 and a third access from McEwan Drive. Kurtz noted a public information meeting will be held before the summer. |
