Look and feel good at Hollywood Tan
By Colleen Longhurst

Photo by Colleen Longhurst Hollywood Tan opened its doors for its grand opening in Caledon Village Saturday. On hand were Andrew Scovell, owner; Christine Boudreau; Jeff Boudreau, owner; Barb Gosselin; Mayor Marolyn Morrison; Josephine Palma; (front) Tia Boudreau.
Caledon Village has new entrepreneurs in Jeff Boudreau and Andrew Scovell, long-time Cheltenham residents.

Jeff will tell you it all started with Andrew wanting to buy a tanning bed for personal use. That led him to an ad for nine tanning machines. They bought all of them. After selling two, the pair came up with the idea of starting up a business called Hollywood Tan. "We just liked the name," said Andrew.

Quick to action, within a few months, the duo found a location, got certified for operating tanning beds and opened their door in the Caledon Village plaza just south of the post office near Charleston Road and Highway 10.

The Hollywood theme is carried throughout building, including the addition of stars to the door of each tanning room and movie star posters in the reception area. There are five tanning beds and two stand-up units that boast up to 11,000 watts.

"Our beds are high powered, so tanning sessions can be shorter. We charge by sessions whereas many tanning operations charge by the minute. Clients can pop in during their lunch hour or on their way home, spend a short time in a tanning bed and quickly get back to their schedule," Boudreau added.

A tanning session can be four to 12 minutes depending on the degree of tan the client already has. Rooms have piped-in music with individual volume controls. Adjustable fans inside the beds blow air to keep the tanner comfortable during the process. After a session beds are sanitized and all towels are laundered, "whether they looked used or not."

Leslie Hannon-Mills of Acton, who had just completed a treatment, said Hollywood Tan is like Club Med. "The rooms are spacious with a good sound system; the beds are big and comfortable ... worth the drive from Acton," she quipped.

It's also good for people who suffer from the Seasonal Affective Disorder syndrome, SAD, common during the winter months.

Mayor Marolyn Morrison stopped in to welcome Jeff and Andrew to the business community and to wish them well in their new venture.

Hollywood Tan is open Monday to Friday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
