Concert Band holds local performances The Caledon Concert Band, which is made up of local musicians ranging in ages from 13 to senior citizens, has been practicing hard lately for an important competition. The band entered the 500 level competition of the Ontario Band Association festival (the regional division of Musicfest Canada). The competition was held Feb. 14, a day of snow and ice that caused schools to cancel buses and many other activities to be postponed. Not to mention that Valentine's Day had to be largely ignored! Undeterred, all members made it to the important event, and the result was that the band was awarded gold by all three adjudicators, and invited to compete at the national finals. Unfortunately, it is not possible for the band to attend the national competition this year as it is being held in British Columbia. Despite fundraising efforts and generous corporate support from James Dick Construction, Do It Industries, Prudential Select Real Estate and the Town of Caledon, travel to B.C. is not something that is attainable this year. However, the invitation to compete at the national level is good for two years, so the band is eagerly anticipating next year, when Musicfest Canada will be held in Ottawa, and the band has the opportunity to represent our community once again in our nation's capital. The Caledon Concert Band holds its annual spring concert at the Christ Anglican Church, 22 Nancy St. in Bolton, Sunday April 29th at 2 p.m. Special guests at this concert will be the James Bolton Public School Junior Choir under the direction of Ms. Gillian Swanson. The band proudly represents this community, and hopes to have a good turnout for the concert. Music performed will range from marches, movie music and lively Spanishsounding pieces to lyrical pieces such as a Percy Grainger arrangement of Londonderry Air, which was one of the competition pieces. Proceeds will be used by this non-profit charitable organization for community music education projects. Tickets are available at the door for $10. Seniors are $8, and children 12 and under free.
