Candidates file municipal election expenses All but three candidates in the 2006 municipal election filed their election expenses by the April 2 deadline. Those not filing on time included Ward 5 regional councillor candidate George Niras, Ward 2 regional councillor candidate Dave Tatla and Ward 3 & 4 candidate Roy Trepanier who withdrew from the race. They won't be eligible to run in the 2010 election. Even candidates who withdrew prior to Election Day still had to file a financial statement and auditor's report under the Municipal Elections Act, clerk Cheri Cowan told the Citizen. Mayoral candidates The candidates for mayor had a spending limit of $35,764.60. Mayor Marolyn Morrison received $40,490 in contributions. Her total campaign expenses subject to the spending limit were $33,440.09 and not subject to the spending limit were $4,641.30. Her campaign surplus was $2,422.01. Among her largest contributors giving $750 each were R & B Construction, Giffels Design-Build Inc., Bel Air Wood Components Inc., PMB Holding Ltd., Scave Investments Ltd., Sola Developments Company Ltd., Underground Services (1983) Ltd., The Toronto-Dominion Bank, T.E.R. Construction, Trailcon Leasing Inc., Action Trailer Sales Inc., Garden Foods Ltd., H. Davis Construction Ltd., Cornerstone Landscaping Ltd., Maple Lodge Farms, Greater Toronto Sewer and Watermain Contractors Association, Bolton Medical Centre Ltd. and Versatile Construction. Mayoral runner-up Garry Moore received $33,400 in contributions. His total campaign expenses subject to the spending limit were $32,695.36 and not subject to the spending limit were $636. His campaign surplus was $68.64. Among those contributing $750 each to his campaign were Advanced Precast Inc., Richmond Wood Products, Bel Air Lumber Inc., Andrea Lunardo Construction Ltd., Bolton Railings Inc., 1339233 Ontario Inc. GTX Transport, Quad Steel Inc., Omega Lift, Fast Equipment Services Inc., Fast Float Services Inc., Omega Lift Distributors Inc., Garden Foods, Sandro Towing, Harmon Transport, GTSWCA, Bondfield Construction, James Dick Construction and Fieldgate Land Development. Norm Calder reported a deficit from the previous election of $3,810.34. For the past election he received $6,841.31 in contributions, all from his wife Terry Calder. His total campaign expenses were the same $6,841.31. Darren Parberry, who withdrew from the mayor's race, reported a zero total in all sections. Ward 1 Regional The spending limit for Ward 1 regional councillor candidates was $10,055.40. Regional Councillor Richard Paterak had a deficit of $957.17 from the previous election. In the past election he reported $2,405 in contributions received. His total campaign expenses subject to the spending limit were $1,409.87. His campaign surplus was $37.98. His highest contribution was $750 from Town & City Realty Ltd. Jim Pattison didn't have any contributions. His total campaign expenses subject to the spending limit were $2,078.12. Ward 1 Area The spending limit for Ward 1 area councillor was $10,055.40. Area Councillor Doug Beffort reported $5,130 in contributions received. His total campaign expenses were $5,173.67 leaving him with a campaign deficit of $43.67. His largest contributors were James Dick Construction Ltd. and Osprey Valley Golf Course who gave $750 each. Tim Forster received contributions of $7,525. His total campaign expenses subject to the spending limit were $7,543.74 leaving him with a $18.74 campaign deficit. His top contributors were Osprey Valley Resort and Trailon Leasing who donated $750 each. John Martin had total campaign expenses of $1,842.30. Jim Wallace withdrew from the race and reported no contributions or expenses. Ward 2 Regional The spending limit for Ward 2 regional councillor candidates was $9,348.20. Regional Councillor Allan Thompson received $9,825 in contributions. His total campaign expenses subject to the spending limit were $9,348.20. His campaign surplus was $493.35. Contributing $750 each to his campaign were Glen Schnarr & Associates, Fieldgate Land Development Ltd., Caledon Development Ltd., Ben-Ted Construction Ltd., Cornerstone Landscaping Ltd., Osprey Valley Golf Course and Guglietti Brothers. Donna Cragg collected $7,956.10 in contributions. Her total campaign expenses subject to the spending limit were $7,129.88 and not subject to the spending limit were $787.70. Her campaign surplus came to $38.52. Her top contributor was Keith Davis who gave $750. Ward 2 Area The spending limit for Ward 1 area councillor was $9,395.30. Area Councillor Gord McClure gathered $1,800 in contributions. His campaign expenses subject to the spending limit were $5,125 leaving him with a deficit of $3,325. His top contributor was Anglia Holdings which gave $750. Stephen Townsend received $100 in contributions when he was briefly in the race for regional councillor and then received $5,150 when he switched to the area councillor race. His total campaign expenses subject to the spending limit were $5,046.75. His campaign surplus was $100 for regional councillor and $103.25 for area councillor. His top contributors giving $750 each were Glen Schnarr & Associates, Ben-Ted Construction Ltd., Caledon Development Ltd. and Guglietti Brothers Investment Ltd. Brian Shannon, who withdrew from the race, reported no contributions or expenses. Ward 3 & 4 Regional The spending limit for Ward 3 and 4 regional councillor candidates was $13,430.80. Regional Councillor Richard Whitehead gathered $18,010 in contributions. His total campaign expenses subject to the spending limit were $12,876.64 and not subject to the spending limit were $3,766.60. His campaign surplus was $1,366.76. Among his largest contributors giving $750 each were G l e n d o w e r Investments,730231 Ontario Ltd.,Glen Schnarr & Associates, Ashton Ridge Homes Inc., Interworld Concepts Inc., Georgetown Estates Corporation, M.P. Western Diversified, James Dick Construction Ltd., Solmar Holdings Corp. and Equity Corp. Former councillor Nancy Stewart reported a deficit of $106.96 from the previous election. She received $12,110 in contributions. Her total campaign expenses subject to the spending limit were $10,124.86 and not subject to the spending limit were $1,546.76. Her campaign surplus was $438.38. The portion of the campaign surplus returned to her was $331.42. She received $750 contributions from Monarch Development Corporation, Vistero Homes, Garden Foods, James Dick Construction, Kaneff and Osprey Valley Golf. Tony Viola had no contributions. His total campaign expenses subject to the spending limit were $4,078.48. Ward 3 & 4 Area The spending limit for Ward 3 and 4 area councillor candidates was $13,430.80. Area Councillor Nick deBoer reported a deficit of $4,524.73 from the previous election. In the past election he had $2,650 in contributions. His total campaign expenses subject to the spending limit were $3,350.44. He put his campaign deficit at $5,225.17. His top contributors giving $750 each were Glen Schnarr & Associates and Monarch Corp. Don McNeil reported no contributions and no campaign expenses. Ward 5 Regional The spending limit for Ward 5 regional councillor candidates was $15,383.10. Regional Councillor Annette Groves reported a surplus of $41.94 from the previous election. She received $10,466.94 in contributions. Her total campaign expenses subject to the spending limit were $8,746.70 and no not subject to the spending limit were $1,457.83. Her campaign surplus was $263.08. Among her top contributors giving $750 each were Bel Air Lumber Inc., Garden Foods, John Schnarr & Associates Inc., Perlane Construction Inc. and Fieldgate Land Development Ltd. Kelly Darnley took in $9,975 in contributions. Her total campaign expenses subject to the spending limit were $9,968.15. Her campaign surplus was $6.85. Giving her $750 contributions each were Bel Air Lumber, Centum Equity Access Corp., Trendway Transportation, Cedar Hills Pontiac Buick, James Dick Construction, Marotta Enterprises Inc. and Ralfran Investments. Ward 5 Area The spending limit for Ward 5 regional councillor candidates was $15,383.10. Area Councillor Jason Payne collected $5,190 in contributions. His total campaign expenses subject to the spending limit were $6,632.50 leaving him with a deficit of $1,437.50. He received a $750 contribution from A & F Industries. Sandro Scerni reported total campaign expenses of $800. Sandy Forester had $40 in contributions. Her total campaign expenses subject to the spending limit were $1,075.16. Egle Boudreau reported no contributions and $3,545.17 in total campaign expenses subject to the spending limit. Public school trustee The spending limit for Peel district school board trustee candidates was $24,484.50. Caledon Trustee Valerie Arnold-Judge received $2,950 in contributions. Her total campaign expenses subject to the spending limit were $8,733.34 leaving her with a campaign deficit of $5,783.34. Her largest contributor was OSSTF which gave $750. Stan Cameron had contributions totalling $12,550. His total campaign expenses subject to the spending limit were $12,489.10 leaving him with a surplus of $60.90. His top contributors were Larry Goss and Denis Paganelli who donated $500 each. Donna Hynes and C. Josephine Scott both reported no contributions or expenses. Catholic school trustee Acclaimed Dufferin- Caledon Trustee Frank Di Cosola didn't have any contributions or expenses. |
