Townhall Players members receive honours

The Caledon Townhall Players are pleased and proud to announce its members who were among the nominees and the winners of this year's Association of Community Theatres of Central Ontario Awards.

March 31 the glittering 75th diamond anniversary of the ACTCO Gala Awards took place at the Paradise Convention Centre in Woodbridge.

Caledon is thrilled to announce that the adjudicator's award for "Most Promising Newcomer" in a Drama was won by Orangeville native, Derek Nielsen for the challenging role of Jud Templeton in last autumn's presentation of Tribute. Derek, now 18 years old, made his first appearance on our stage as Mordred in the Christmas show, King Arthur and later played the rascally Israel Feet in Treasure Island. An active youth, Derek is a master skateboarder and a member of the ski patrol. Congratulations Derek!

In the role of Jud's father, Dale Pringle, two-time winner of the best actor award for his comic portrayals of Brian Runnicles in No Sex Please We're British and the hapless Stanley Gardner in Caught In The Net was again nominated, this time for Best Actor in a Drama for his sensitive portrayal of Scottie Templeton. In the same presentation Kathryn DeLory was also nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Dr. Gladys Petrelli and the crew of Tribute received a nomination for an adjudication award for set design for "Doing a Lot with a Little."

The Perfect Manhattan was also honoured by ACTCO. The director and set designer, Marilyn Edridge won a prestigious THEA for "Ingenuity of Design."

"Apart from the personal satisfaction we all feel in receiving these awards and honourable mentions, there is a much greater significance in this for our little community theatre. The competition for these awards is huge. We are up against the best clubs throughout all of central Ontario, which includes Toronto and the entire GTA. We did very well to achieve such recognition against almost overwhelming competition. We feel great pride in having lived up to our mandate to consistently provide the most professional amateur entertainment available in these hills," said Edridge, publicity and advertising director for the club.

The Caledon Townhall Players extend the heartiest congratulations to everyone involved!
