The Cavalier minor atom AE Hawks beat Stoney Creek two games straight to win the Tri-County Championship.

Though having trouble with the Warriors during previous games, the Caledon Hawks played two great games and finished the season strong.

In the first game at Mayfield, the first period ended in a tie though the Hawks held the edge in play. The second saw Caledon break out early when Kevin Pleasance fed Zach Wilson who broke in between two defenders and slid the puck under the goalie. A little later with the Hawks doing a fantastic job killing a penalty, Riley Telfer stole the puck and scored the Hawks second goal. Then after some strong play in the offensive zone Wilson and Richardson aided Daniel Fusco in making the game 3-0.

The Hawks kept rolling in the third with 4 more from Steven Smythe, Kyle Graham and two by Richardson. Assists went to Callan McCorriston, Fusco, Graham, Karley Kitson, Richardson and two for Wilson. The shutout was shared by both goalies, Koby Stronach and Christian Ciraco, who smothered all Stoney Creek's opportunities and kept them out of the game.

Game 2 was set in Stoney Creek with the championship on the line.

The first period again ended in a scoreless draw. Wilson put two in the net in the second with Kitson, Pleasance and McCorriston assisting. The Warriors scored one and the period ended 2-1 Hawks.

Wilson continued scoring two more in the third putting the Hawks up by three, assists for Carter Ledson, Richardson and two for Simonetta. Everything seemed under control but the Warriors, facing defeat, came back to score three goals and tie the game, forcing overtime.

The momentum should have been against the Hawks, but they came out fighting. Mid-way through the overtime, Smythe and Wilson set up Pleasance who beat the goalie with a well-placed shot. Great game Hawks, with honourable mention to Wilson with 4 goals and an assist.

The Hawks would like to thank their coaching staff: Joe Fusco, Paul Hurrell, David Smythe and Paul Pleasance. Thank you to manager Carol Pleasance for all her time organizing and answering the same questions over and over. To Ryan Graham, Murray Graham and Brad Stronach for running the scoreboard and time clock, great job. Thanks also to the keepers of the Banner, Sandra and Paul Richardson - it was displayed across southern Ontario. The parents would also like to thank the kids for another exciting year of hockey.
