teams were hard-court successes

The Humberview School had an excellent season on the hard-court this past winter. Both the senior and junior boys' basketball teams had winning regular seasons and are starting to build a reputation around ROPSSAA as a school that competes in every game.

The senior boys' team jumped to tier one this year after going undefeated in the tier 2 regular season the previous year. The team not only won some games in tier 1 but surprised a lot of schools with their hard work and skill. Regularly playing against much larger opponents was difficult, but the team worked hard and used their defence and conditioning to run their opponents into regular defeat.

The seniors finished the regular season with a 6-3 record and tied for third in the Tier 1 North Division. They had some tough opponents, with losses to Ascension, D'youville, and Campion. Their wins came against Brathwaite, Chinguacousy, Aquinas, Bramalea, Fletcher's Meadow, and Notre Dame. They won their first against Mt. Carmel but eventually lost again to Ascension by 10 points in the quarter-finals. The key players on the team are G - Andy Quinonnes, G - Patrick Dadzie, F - Ben Dance (C), F/C - Jonathon Hilliard, and F/C - Brandon May. Keys off the bench were F/C Ryan Tomlinson (Bonner), and Matt Alegre.

The junior boys' team also had a good season playing in tier 2. The team won the first 8 games of the season before their first loss at the hands of R.F. Hall. Without their captain and star point guard, the team struggled and could not get anything going offensively, eventually losing by three to a good Hall team. The junior Huskies eventually finished the season 9-2 with their second loss again a single digit loss, this time to Mayfield.

Going into the playoffs tied for 2nd in the North, the Huskies were able to play host to Lorne Park in the first round, beating them 55-38. They then played at Ste. Famille, losing that game 55-50. The team feels that they gave the game away, having their worst shooting performance of the year. They uncharacteristically shot 16 for 64 from the field (1 for 22 from the 3 point line) most of those being open looks.

The key players on the team are G - Alex Wilson (c) , G/F - Delan Keane, G/F - Mike Patel, F/C - Vishal Birk, and F/C Nick Pratt. Keys off the bench were G/F - Brad McConnell, Matt Long, Amin Youseff, and Richard Young-Michoud. The team also won the BCA tournament during the regular season.
