Emery Woodworking crowned atom champions
Emery was down 1-0 to nothing in a close game with Albion Rental. Solid goaltending kept Emery in the game until they finally got on the scoreboard late in the second period. Emery came back with two more goals in the third period for a total of three unanswered goals and the win. Goal-scorers were Graham Jefferson, Connor Thompson and John Paul Amaral with assists going to Vince Accardo, Devin Hume and John Paul Amaral. Scoring for Albion Rental was Tanner Keelan. The game capped an incredible season with the team going undefeated in the regular season with combined record of 17-1-2 over the regular season and playoffs with their only loss in late January. Under the coaching and guidance of the Accardo brothers - Peter and Joe - and trainer Joe Murgida, the team achieved a 90% winning average. The team's strong offence was comprised of forwards Vince Accardo, John Paul Amaral, Shannon Fraser, Devin Hume, Graham Jefferson, Marco Memmolo, Gianluca Servello, Connor Thompson and Vinicio Viani. Solid defense from the Cunti brothers Carlo and Brian, Shawna Dexter, Christian Medeiros, Steven Pietrangelo and Riley Vainer and outstanding goaltending by Antonio Murgida who had a 1.29 goals against average and posted seven shutouts. Credit and thanks go to coaches Peter and Joe Accardo whose focus on both individual skills and team play led to the team¿s overall success. This season was a true team effort that saw improvement in all players with every player tallying a point on the score sheet during the season. Special thanks to the BMHL and convener Rhonda Worth, team sponsor Emery Woodworking for their generous support, manager Angela Medeiros whose organization and coordination made everything happen behind the scenes and comic relief from coach Accardo. |
