Peel to co-host 'Energy Matters' management summit

In partnership with the Ministry of the Environment, Ministry of Energy and the Conservation Bureau, the Region of Peel will play host to Energy Matters 2007, a two-day summit that brings together municipal, business and energy industry representatives from around the world to discuss longterm strategies for sustainable energy planning.

"Energy Matters 2007 is a unique opportunity to examine how municipalities and businesses can lend a new vision to energy and environmental programs," said Steven Hall, director, corporate energy, Region of Peel. "The summit is a collaboration and expression of ideas that can shape strong, vibrant communities by progressively utilizing energy, resources and sustainability."

Highlights of the event presentations include:

* Working Together for Energy Sustainability in Ontario by the Honorable Dwight Duncan, Minister of Energy for Ontario.

* How Ontario's Municipalities are Investing in Sustainable Transportation by the Honorable Donna Cansfield, Minister of Transportation for Ontario.

* Guiding Your Organization Toward Green: Implementing a Corporate Sustainability Strategy by Sanjay Sharma, professor and director, Centre for Responsible Organizations, and Canadian research chair in organizational sustainability, Wilfrid Laurier University.

* International Perspectives: City of Växjö, Sweden - How Europe's Cities are Building a Carbon Free Future by Anders Franzén, manager of department for planning and development and deputy chief executive, City of Växjö, Sweden.

* Canada Green Building Council's New Energy Education Program for Municipal Leaders by Thomas Mueller, president, Canada Green Building Council.

"The opportunity to cohost an event that features a distinguished lineup of speakers and topics, such as Energy Matters 2007, is something the Region can take pride in," said chair Emil Kolb. "Peel has shown itself to be a leader in corporate energy management, and to co-host this event will give us, as well as other municipalities and businesses, the opportunity to remain at the forefront of energy efficiency."
