Licence plan flawed

Regarding Claire Hoy's column, "License plan 'aggressive stupidity.'"

First I would like to point out that no Canadian jurisdictions, provincial or federal, require passports to enter the U.S. It's the Americans that demand them.

Secondly, Hoy is quite correct. Spending millions for a new "high tech" driver's licence that the Americans may not accept is wasting our dollars. Unless they have another agenda they are not revealing.

Thirdly, and the real point of this missive is, if you travel to foreign countries, passports and sometimes visas are required. What people should be complaining about is that Canadian passports are only valid for five years and not 10!
