Mayor's Report
Spring in Caledon is a time to think green
By Marolyn Morrison
As the snow melts and our rivers and streams rise it is extremely important to remember that these areas are dangerous. Please keep your children and pets away from these areas as the thin ice may be deceiving.
The water is cold and often moves quickly. Caledon is home to two major rivers (the Credit River and the Humber River) and many streams and creeks. For information about potential flooding, v i s i t www.creditvalleycons.com or www.trca.on.ca.
You will also notice as we all do in the spring, the garbage that has been blown about and hidden under the snow over the winter. As the Greenest Town in Ontario - we all should do our part to keep our communities clean. Soon, communities will begin to advertise their annual Clean Up Day, like the Tim Hortons sponsored cleanup in Bolton. Keep watch for these announcements, as this is a great way to meet your neighbours while taking pride in your community.
Many residents go beyond the tidying up of their own homes and often walk along the road sides, through fields and along trails picking up garbage. On behalf of the members of council, I would like to thank you for taking the time and doing your part to keep Caledon green.
By now, most residents will have received their new green bin from the Region of Peel. Inside, there is information on the new Organics Recycling Program. The service will commence April 2. I am proud to be part of an organization that is working hard to reduce the amount of garbage produced.
This new program, along with our blue box recycling will greatly minimize the amount of waste that is created. Collection of the organic recycling program will be done weekly, along with your blue box recycling and waste pickup. Yard waste collection will also commence April 2 in settlement areas of Caledon and will be picked up every other week. Don't forget that your organics green bin can also be topped up with yard waste. For more information, visit www.peelregion.ca/waste or call 905-584-2216.
Once again, thank you for doing your part to help keep Caledon clean and green.
