Cavalier Hawks finish first in Tri-County round robin

The Cavalier minor atom AE Hawks finished the Tri- County round robin with 3 wins and 1 tie after a disappointing loss to Georgetown in the OMHA preliminaries. While dealing with this upset, the Hawks turned their sights to the Tri- County crown.

The Hawks first faced off against the Stoney Creek Warriors. The Hawks did not come out strong as early in the season but still managed to take the lead in the first. After some hard work and great pressure in the offensive zone, Riley Telfer scored, assisting were Marc Anthony Simonetta and Carter Ledson. Early in the second Zach Wilson made it 2-0 with passes from Carter Ledson and Karley Kitson. But late in the period a Hawk lapse allowed the Warriors to close the gap to one.

With six minutes remaining in the game, Jake Stronach and Kevin Pleasance set up Steven Smythe for the third Hawk goal. The game seemed in control until later when the Hawks suffered another late game let down and Stoney Creek tied it up. The game ended tied at 3.

Their next opponent was Orangeville at Teen Ranch and the larger ice seemed to suit the Hawks more than the Flyers. The Hawks got off to a quick start moving and passing the puck well.

Ledson netted two goals in the first both from Wilson and Simonetta. The play continued in the Hawks favour and J. Stronach increased the lead to three from Smythe and Pleasance. Late in the second, Orangeville managed to score and the period ended 3-1. The third saw the Hawks continue their dominance, Jake Hurrell went to the net and was set up by Ledson and later Quinn Richardson scored from Simonetta and Ledson. Great game by Caledon with special mention going to Christian Ciraco for solid goaltending and Carter Ledson for his 2 goals and 2 assists.

Twenty-four hours later the Hawks faced off against the Flyers again this time at Tony Rose Arena. The Hawks came out hard but the Flyers benefited from a hot goaltender and a sticky puck that slowed down the game.

Smythe scored the only goal of the night in the first assisting were Pleasance and J. Stronach. Caledon's goalies, Koby Stronach, making some acrobatic saves without his stick, and Christian Ciraco came up big and shared the shutout.

Stoney Creek 3 The final game pitted Caledon against Stoney Creek in a battle for home ice advantage in the Tri- County finals.

Stoney Creek struck first but the Hawks kept up their game and the Warriors fell apart taking a number of penalties. The Hawks took full advantage. First it was Kyle Graham from Hurrell and Pleasance on a power play. Late in the first Wilson netted another power play goal from Ledson and Simonetta. J. Stronach and Smythe combined early in the second to make the game 3-1. Later on another power play Pleasance netted one from Smythe and J. Stronach.

The second period ended 4-2 after a late Warrior goal. The game became close after Stoney Creek netted another goal, but they continued drawing penalties. Ledson set up Richardson at the blue line, who fired a nice high shot that eluded the goaltender.

Graham added an empty net goal with assists to Pleasance and Callan McCorriston, to end the game.
