Roth Hawks in Tri-County action Roth Diamond Tools minor bantam AE Hawks got started in Tri-County playdowns on the road Feb. 20 versus Georgetown Raiders. In the first the Hawks controlled the play outshooting the Raiders 14-3 but were turned back by sharp goal tending. Early in the second Cameron Miller worked the puck to Christian Bonaldi who found Brandon Richard for the Hawks' goal. The Raiders replied 30 seconds later then hunkered down in front of their keeper to earn a 1-1 tie. Nathan Cole backstopped the Hawks in this tight checking affair. Game two Feb. 27 was again on the road in Oakville. On the first shift of the game J.T. Gore provided the spadework deep in the offensive zone then found "Maggs" Magliocchi who provided the slick finish. On the next shift Cameron Miller created a neutral zone turnover and fired the puck to the net where the seeing eye puck squeezed by the startled keeper. Oakville fired one home at the halfway mark off a nice deflection. The Hawks' reply came when Brandon Richard got the puck in deep behind the net to Cam Miller who served a smooth feed to Christian Bonaldi for a one time beauty. Early in the second Christian Bonaldi cleanly won an offensive zone draw to Tyler "The Moose" Symonds who hammered a slapshot home. Hawks' goal number five was created by some good digging by James Harkins and J.T. Gore with Magliocchi again finding the twine. Oakville showed some spunk and answered 30 seconds later. Oakville tallied a marker at the end of the second and near the end of the third to make this a close game with the Hawks prevailing 5-4. Go Hawks, go! Ousted from OMHA Roth Diamond Tools minor bantam AE continued their drive to through the OMHA playdowns Feb. 4 at Stoney Creek. Mid-way through the first the Hawks struck for the first goal when Christian Bonaldi and Cody Ruff freed up the puck to Brandon Richard who provided the finish. Thirty seconds later it was Cameron Miller feeding Richard for his second. As the period ended the Warriors tallied one of their own. Right off the opening faceoff in the second it was Miller working the disc up to Richard with the perfect feed to Christian Bonaldi for a 3-1 Hawks' lead. From this point on in a very tightly played game it was Stoney Creek who chipped away at the Hawks with two goals in the second and one more in the third to register the 4-3 win. The following night the Hawks hosted the much improved Brampton squad at Mayfield. Again the Hawks got off to a fast start when Chris Scrivo passed to Giancarlo Cianflocca who made the cross-crease feed to Ryan Rausch for a perfect one timer. Later in the first it was Tyler Symonds powering the puck to the net where the combo of Cianflocca and Richard moved the puck across the goal line. In the second it was Richard from Bonaldi and Cam Miller. Mid period Cianflocca showed fine form with a solo effort for Caledon's fourth goal. Again the Hawks had problems controlling the play in the second half of the game surrendering two second period goals to the Battalion. The third period ended with no more scoring as Marco Chiechi patrolled the pipes behind the defensive core of Cody Ruff, David Rothfuchs, Nolan Pearce and Symonds for the 4-2 victory. February 8 was the back half of the home-and-home against Stoney Creek. The Hawks found the net first as Bonaldi showed his skills with an unassisted marker. Stoney Creek found the range late to tie the game. In the second right off the opening face off it was James Harkins getting the puck free form J.T. Gore who provided the finish putting the Hawks ahead. With 10 seconds remaining in the 2nd the Hawks surrendered a heartbreaker to draw the game even. Early in the third the Warriors pounded two quick goals in on one shift to take the lead. Minutes later Symonds and Gore controlled the puck deep in the zone and fed to Harkins on the door step for a tap in. Despite good pressure late in the game the Hawks could not find the equalizer and were on the wrong end of the 4-3 score. Our boys squared off against Brampton Feb. 10 at Chris Gibson. Brampton posted a 4-2 win and eliminated the Hawks from the OMHA playoffs. Great effort boys. |
