Caledon Central nears its goal to build school in Tekera, Uganda Caledon Central has been raising money to build a school in Tekera, Uganda since September of 2006. One of the teacher's sister is in Uganda helping the people in the community. She is part of a voluntary association building the Tekera Resource Center that donates not only all of the money raised to the town but also all of their time to help the cause. Other projects the foundation has done are things such as building a medical centre, rebuilding the town's well, making a new latrine for the children and building a playground. The cost to make the school is approximately $3,000 Canadian. We are only $800 away from our goal having raised $2,200 already. The school will have three rooms and will include a small teacher's residence nearby. There will be 120 students attending the school who currently have to walk up to four kilometres to go to school in another town. Other than our poinsettia sale we have had various fund-raisers at the school such as a crazy hat day, several dances, a volleyball tournament, and as well as donations from many staff members, students, and parents. We will continue to raise money for the school as any extra funds will be used to outfit the school. For more information please visit www.ugandavillage.org. |
