BAR class environmental assessment completed
By ALAN LICZYK Staff Reporter

The class environmental assessment for Stage 2 of the Bolton arterial roads has been completed.

Caledon council recently directed staff to file the environmental study report for public and agency review for a 30-day period.

The road works north of King Street are referred to as the BAR Stage 2.

The Town hired McCormick Rankin Corp. to do the BAR Stage 2 class EA study from Duffy's Lane to Regional Road 50. The section of road being considered for the corridor is a two-lane arterial.

McCormick Rankin developed two road alignment alternatives for the BAR Stage 2 class EA study. The preferred road alignment is the south alternative which places the arterial road through the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority lands and along the north limit of the James Dick Construction property. The south alternative would totally avoid the Matson agricultural property as it continues easterly to Regional Road 50. The intersection at Regional Road 50 would be signalized.

Town staff commented both the TRCA and the adjacent landowners supported the preferred road alignment. The preliminary cost estimate to construct the preferred road alignment is $4.3 million plus engineering and land acquisition costs.

Following the 30-day review period for the environmental study report, and the receipt of necessary approvals, the Town may proceed with construction of the BAR Stage 2 road improvements.

Craig Campbell, director of public works and engineering, told Councillor Annette Groves there is no need for another public meeting.

Councillor Nick deBoer said the preferred road alignment preserves the agricultural operation.
