International Women's Day event
Special guests at wellness fair

March 8 is celebrated every year around the world as International Women's Day, recognizing the achievements of women in our community and across the globe.

This International Women's Day, the Peel Committee Against Woman Abuse (PCAWA) is presenting an evening of inspirational speakers and performers, combined with an invigorating wellness fair, from 5 to 10 p.m. at Sagan Convention Centre and Banquet Hall. The daytime celebration (1 to 5 p.m.) features keynote speaker Dini Petty.

The celebration will feature:

* Award winning comedian Elvira Kurt who will have the audience roaring with laughter.

* Dynamic speaker, psychologist Dr. Smita Vir Tyagi.

* World renowned classical Indian dancer Menaka Thakkar's students will grace the stage with their mesmerizing dance.

* Cori Sandler and Deb Parent from Joyful Resistance, a women's drumming ensemble will shake the room with their scintillating world rhythms and soaring vocalizations.

While enjoying music and dance, participants will indulge in a relaxing wellness fair, including free makeovers, massages, and yoga demonstrations.

The event is coordinated by the PCAWA, in collaboration with Armagh, Dixie Bloor Neighbourhood Centre, Salvation Army Family Life Resource Centre, Sexual Assault Rape Crisis Centre of Peel, Peel Committee on Sexual Assault, Victim Services of Peel, & Victim Witness Assistance Program.

The PCAWA is a cross-sectoral collaborative comprised of the judicial, health and social services sectors in the Region of Peel. This active committee has been in existence for more than 20 years and its mandate is to promote a comprehensive and effective response to woman abuse in the Region of Peel and to work toward the eradication of violence against women and their children.
