Greens present Elizabeth May

An evening with Elizabeth May, leader of the Green Party of Canada, is planned for March 6 at the Orangeville Fairgrounds, starting at 7:15 p.m.

The environment has recently been voted as the number one issue for Canadians. At 26% it beat out health care by a full 8%. And the same Strategic Council poll showed that the Green Party is seen as having the best plan for the environment by 27% of Canadians, well ahead of the Liberals at 16 %.

March 6 you can learn more about the Green Party and their plans when Elizabeth May, the new leader of the federal Green Party, speaks at the Orangeville agricultural facility.

May, one of Canada's leading environmentalists is also a writer, activist and lawyer. She is the author of five books including her most recent How to Save the World in Your Spare Time. In 2005, in recognition for her outstanding achievements, she was made an Officer of the Order of Canada. May was executive director of the Sierra Club of Canada for 17 years prior to winning the leadership of the federal Green Party in August 2006.

Since taking over, interest in the party has been booming with membership doubling over the past several months. In December 2006 May ran in the federal by-election in London and in a surprise result, came a close second to the Liberal candidate.

May is known to be an engaging and dynamic speaker who, with an election on the horizon, is sure to have a lot to say! There will be time following her speech for questions from the audience.

Tickets to the main event are available for $25 in Orangeville at Booklore, in Shelburne at the Jelly Craft Bakery, in Bolton at Forster's Book Garden and in Cheltenham at the General Store. A special opportunity to spend the hour before the main event, up close and personal with May, is being offered to the first 40 people who make a $100 donation, which is partly tax deductible.
