Cavalier minor atom Hawks advance to OMHA quarterfinals The minor atom AE Hawks finished the preliminary round of the playoffs 5 and 1 and won a berth into the OMHA quarterfinals. The Hawks played Orangeville, Georgetown and Stoney Creek twice each, only losing one controversial game in Stoney Creek. Caledon moves on to face rivals Georgetown in a best of 5 series. Caledon 5, Georgetown 1 Game one of the quarterfinals was played at Memorial Arena in Georgetown. The Hawks wasted little time as Jake Stronach scored twice in the first giving them a two goal lead, assisting on the goals were Kevin Pleasance, Karley Kitson and Steven Smythe. In the second period, while on a two-man power play, Zachary Wilson added to the lead from Kyle Graham and J Stronach. Georgetown managed to break Koby Stronach's welldeserved bid at a shutout and seemed to catch some momentum. J Stronach exacted some revenge by netting a hat trick and his fourth point of the game. Assisting were Quinn Richardson and Sarah Power. Marc Anthony Simonetta finished the scoring with a nice shot, assists to Pleasance and Kitson. Hawk player of the game with 3 goals and an assist was J Stronach. Georgetown 3, Caledon 2 Mayfield was the site for game 2 and the Hawks were looking to take control early again. Wilson put this plan into action from Carter Ledson and K Kitson. The Hawks plan was working until Georgetown put in two goals off of deflections and they gained confidence. Georgetown pulled further ahead in the second and the Hawks found themselves two goals down. Before the end of the second, Simonetta closed the gap to 3 to 2, assists for Ledson and Wilson. The Hawks pressed hard in the third for the tying goal but were denied, even on a buzzer-ending scramble. |
