Caledon elementary schools are evaluated by institute

Caledon's 11 public and separate elementary schools were among 2,812 English and French schools to be rated in the Report Card on Ontario's Elementary Schools: 2007 Edition, by the independent research organization The Fraser Institute.

The rankings were based on the nine key indicators derived from the provincewide tests of reading, writing and mathematics skills administered by the province's Education Quality and Accountability Office.

"The report card shows parents how each school is doing in academics, not just in one year, but, most importantly, over a number of years," said Peter Cowley, the institute's director of school performance studies and co-author of the report card. "The report card also enables teachers and administrators as well as parents to compare results for their schools with those of other similar schools across the province. By demonstrating what can be accomplished, such comparisons can make a useful contribution to each school's ongoing improvement efforts."
