Centre appoints new director

Supria Karmakar has been appointed the new executive director of the The Sexual Assault/Rape Crisis Centre of Peel.

Supria brings with her a wealth of experiences in the violence against women sector, 14 years of which are in the Peel region. She has worked with the SA/RCCP as the lead volunteer trainer for a number of years and possesses an excellent feminist, anti-oppression, antiracism framework.

Her intimate knowledge of the organization in addition to her outstanding leadership and interpersonal skills, will serve her well as she transitions into this new role.

The SA/RCCP is a community based organization of women working with women who have been affected by sexual violence and other forms of oppression. They work from a feminist, anti-oppressive framework that embraces inclusiveness, diversity and equity which means:

* Recognizing that sexual violence is a crime, committed predominantly by men against women and children.

* Striving to eradicate sexual violence and all forms of oppression.

* Eliminating barriers in order to increase access for women from diverse communities.

* Networking and resource building with other community partners.

The Sexual Assault/Rape Crisis Centre of Peel is proud to provide 24-hour crisis and support telephone service; one-on-one counselling services; women's sharing groups; accompaniments; public education and training and information and referrals.
