New Impact Award recognizes Caledon businesses

Unveiling the Impact Award at the Town Hall in Caledon East from Husky Injection Molding Systems in Bolton were Karen Brar, co-ordinator of environment, health and safety; Carine Strong, director of customer relations; Dirk Schlimm, vice-president of corporate affairs; Glenn Atkinson, director of environment, health and safety; along with Mayor Marolyn Morrison and Sara Peckford (far right), Caledon's environmental progress officer.
Husky Injection Molding Systems has partnered with the Town of Caledon and the Caledon Chamber of Commerce to create the Impact Award, which recognizes local business for making a positive contribution to the environment.

The new award is part of the Chamber's annual Business Achievement Awards. The winner will be announced at the Royal Ambassador Banquet & Catering facility March 2.

"The name Impact was chosen to imply that award-winning businesses have helped mitigate negative social and environmental impacts, while creating a positive economic impact," said Dirk Schlimm, Husky's vice-president of corporate affairs. "Husky has made sustainability a part of our core values and we think it's important to formally recognize other local businesses that do the same."

Nominees should be for-profit, small businesses (under 150 employees) that are located within the Town of Caledon. Home-based businesses are also eligible. Business owners should be residents of the Town of Caledon. It is preferred if nominees are those who have not previously been formally recognized for their efforts

The award committee will consider businesses that are addressing waste management, energy and social responsibility. At a minimum, businesses should be recycling. Nominees may also be investigating ways to reduce or reuse any waste outputs.

Nominees should have implemented or are considering energy efficiency or conservation measures (installed efficient lighting, motion sensors, employee education around energy efficiency). Nominees may also be considering renewable energy (solar panels, wind) to supplement their energy requirements.

Nominees should contribute in-kind or financial resources to community groups or local charities.
