The Great Caledon East Pancake Race

Young ladies residing in Caledon East again are invited to set aside their feminist principles in the interest of tradition - and a chance to win a free pancake supper for four.

St. James' Anglican Church is repeating last year's highly successful Great Caledon East Pancake Race on Tuesday, Feb. 20, starting at 5:30 p.m. from the Trailside Bistro in Caledon East. Competitors (this year at least) must be females aged 12 to 18, residents of Caledon East and wearing "housewifely" garb of skirt, apron and head covering, such as a scarf or hat. They need not be married.

A hot cooking pancake will be supplied at the start of the race. It must be tossed three times during the race. Competitors must bring their own frying pans.

The first "tossing woman" to arrive at the church and serve her pancake to the bell ringer, will receive a kiss (and the free pancake supper).

Non-competitors also are invited to enjoy a pancake supper in the church hall from 5:30 to 7 p.m., at a cost of $5 for adults and $3 for children.
