Local therapist worked at World University Games

Caledon East athletic therapist, Andrea Prieur, was chosen as one of six core medical staff for the Canadian delegation at the 23rd World University Games in Turino, Italy with 200 Canadian athletes in attendance.

Prieur, certified athletic therapist, and one of the owners of Core Solutions Physiotherapy and Wellness in Caledon East, was chosen as part of the medical team for the Games. These games have been held all over the world, and were just held in Turino at many new facilities prepared for the 2006 Olympics.

The games wrapped up Jan. 28 and Andrea covered different events and worked on our Canadian athletes in the clinic.

Andrea is a member of the Canadian Athletic Therapists Association and was chosen as one of six people in the medical team partly due to her past experience at the Canada Games and Pan American Games, as well as her continued education and experience in the clinical field.

Andrea worked at the cross country ski venue for the first week, and now covers alpine events at Bardenacchia for the remainder of her stay.

The Canadian athletes are varsity athletes at Universities across Canada. Canadian Interuniversity Sport is the national governing body of university sport in Canada. Fifty-two universities, 10,000 student-athletes and 550 coaches vie for 19 national championships in 11 different sports. CIS also provides high performance international opportunities for Canadian student-athletes at Winter and Summer Universiades, and numerous world university championships.
