Hawks split with Raiders in playoff action

End-to-end action was the order of the day Jan. 25 when Roth Diamond Tools minor bantam AEs squared off against cross town rivals Georgetown Raiders.

In the first the Hawks struck paydirt with Christian Bonaldi finishing the play for linemates Brandon Richard and Cameron Miller. Georgetown knotted it up before the end of the period.

In the second the Hawks controlled the play and were rewarded when David Rothfuchs worked the puck in deep to J.T. Gore who dominated down low and fed a perfect pass across the goalmouth for the tap in from James Harkins. As time ticked away Ryan Rausch freed up the puck to Giancarlo Cianflocca with the feed in front where Chris Scrivo stretched across to knock home the goal at the one-second mark. Georgetown found the mark to draw within one at 13:32 of the third. From then on the staunch defence of Tyler Symonds, Cody Ruff, Nolan Pearce and David Rothfuchs were strong in front of Marco Chiechi who backstopped the victory.

Raiders fight back

Two nights later the action switched to Georgetown.

The Hawks again started the scoring with Bonaldi finding the mark assisted by Michael Magliocchi and James Harkins. The Georgetown squad replied with a power play goal and a second tally with 6 seconds remaining. The Caledon boys responded in the second with a goal from "Maggs" Magliocchi assisted by Harkins and J.T. Gore. Then it was Richard burying one with play making from Cam Miller and Pearce. Captain Gore then scored with help from Magliocchi and Harkins. Georgetown refused to quit and scored two goals before the period ended with all square.

The third was a see-saw affair until with 4:33 left David Rothfuchs netted a slap shot from the point assisted by Rausch and Scrivo. The suspect officiating continue to play a part in the game as the Hawks sustained three penalties in a row in the third to match the previous six they endured. This resulted in a late Georgetown marker and the Hawks entered OT a man down.

One minute in the Raiders found the mark to continue their solid performance against our Hawks. Next up are the Stoney Creek Warriors go Hawks!
