Minor bantams win Port Credit tourney

New year's celebrations came early for the Caledon minor bantam select team as they finished 2006 with a clean sweep of the Port Credit Christmas Tournament to bring home yet another trophy to the Hawks' nest in Bolton.

In Game 1, the Hawks ran over the Brampton Battalion team to the tune of 6-1. First-period action saw Kyle Sammut score a power play goal from Zachary Moszynski and Anthony Gasbarre to go up 1-0. Moments later Sammut again found the mark on a nice pass from Moszynski. The lone goal of the second period was scored by Michael Bellisario with linemates Warren Stroud and Joseph DiMarco earning the helpers. In the third, it was all Hawks, as Damian Commisso found the cage due to some great work by Sammut and Moszynski. Stroud combined with Vincent Maiolino for the Hawks fifth goal and then with Bellisario to tally his second of the game.

Gaebler racks

and stacks them

The Blackhawks won their second game of the tournament against Oakville 6-2. The tandem of Maiolino and Harry Gaebler were the sparkplugs on the team for this game when they combined some great passing to find Stroud for the Hawks' first goal. Gaebler then scored his first goal of the game on a nice heads-up pass from Maiolino. A beautifully executed give- and- go pinch from Bellisario resulted in Gaebler's second goal. Shortly thereafter Gaebler returned the favour as Bellisario slammed home the puck for the Hawks' fourth goal. Midway through the third period Maiolino again found Gaebler who rifled home this third goal of the game. The Hawks finished off the evening when Andrew Fellin scored off some hard work by Clarke Stewart and Justin Lollino.

Shutout over

Lorne Park

Game 3 was a 3-0 win against Lorne Park. The Three Amigos took charge of this game as they accounted for all the goals. Robert Keszeg scored first from Fellin and Lollino, then Lollino potted the second goal from Fellin, and finally Keszeg did the damage again from Fellin and Lollino. Solid defensive play by Christopher Rotondo, DiMarco, Gasbarre and Gaebler kept Lorne Park off the scoreboard.

Championship Game

The championship game turned out to be a rematch against Lorne Park. With the cup on the line the Hawks turned on the heat and went on the attack.

Sammut was first to find the mark with assists going to Commisso and Stewart.

Fellin started his reign of terror when he converted Lollino and Gaebler's efforts into his first goal of the night. Sensing that his linemate was on a roll Lollino again found Fellin who made no mistake on his second goal. The Hawks continued to notch up the heat as the superb passing between Gaebler and Stroud opened up the lane for Maiolino and his first goal of the tournament. The Hawks' last goal came on a power play late in the third period when Rotondo and Keszeg combined to find Fellin streaking down the boards.

Skating at full bore Fellin swung around the last defenceman, cut across the net and fired home his hat trick goal past the outstretched glove of a dejected Lorne Park goalie. Final score was 5-1.

The stellar goaltending of both Torrey Glendinning and Taylor Elkins allowed only four goals against during the tournament with Glendinning earning a shutout.
