Speaker series at the B&DHS The B&DHS will be commencing its 2007 speaker series with a wide variety of programs to catch the interest of old and new members alike. Returning as speakers this year will be many of the top names in horticulture such as favourites Denis Flanagan, Paul Zammit and Marion Jarvie to name but a few. Topics that will entice many to join in the meetings will include container gardening, native herb folklore, perennials, and one to surely entertain, the Mae West (!) principles of gardening. Speaking at the February 1st meeting will be Donna Wilson, who will be demonstrating the basics of floral design that will turn novices into budding masters of the craft. Membership at the B&DHS has benefits galore as members learn and share knowledge, participate in gardening ventures throughout the community and receive discounts from many local nurseries. The price of a single membership will often pay itself back with the money saved on the purchase of a few shrubs this spring. Meetings are held the first Thursday of each month at 7:15 p.m. at the Caledon Centre for Recreation & Wellness, break for July and August, and will finish with the AGM (and Denis Flanagan) Nov. 15, 2007. Family memberships are $20, and single memberships $15. Pay-as you-go costs $3 per visit, and $2 for members of other horticultural societies. For further information, call Cathy Brown at 905-857-1460. |
