Cavalier minor atom AE Hawks win three more Caledon minor atom AE Hawks added more points in their quest to first place. Caledon 3, Kitchener 1 Early in the New Year the Hawks traveled to Kitchener to face the Ranger Blues. The Hawks were ready and came out flying but did not capitalize right away. Early in the second period Steven Smythe opened the scoring from Kevin Pleasance. Thanks to Christian Ciraco who stopped a break-away and made a great glove save, the Hawks opened the third with a one goal lead. The line of Kyle Graham, Riley Telfer and Daniel Fusco had a great game and 4 minutes into the third Telfer and Graham set up Fusco for a nice one-timer. Two minutes later, Pleasance, Jake Stronach and Smythe created a long scramble around the Ranger net and Pleasance finally scored. Ciraco's shutout was lost off a tipped shot that trickled over his pads. The Hawks shut the Rangers down the rest of the way with great penalty killing by Marc Anthony Simonetta and Zachary Wilson. Caledon 3, Brampton 1 Brampton was the next road game opponent the Hawks faced. The Hawks fell behind early when Brampton was able to break into the zone quickly and Koby Stronach was beaten by a high hard shot. Koby was unfazed and that would be the only goal against him. Caledon did not take advantage of any opportunities until a power play in the second when Telfer and Graham set-up Fusco to tie the game at one. Finally mid-way through the third the Hawks took control of the scoreboard when after a lot of, J. Stronach scored with Smythe and Pleasance assisting. The Hawks faced an extra attacker in the final seconds of the game as Brampton pulled their goalie. Carter Ledson fought hard along the boards to get the puck out of the zone to Simonetta who moved out into the neutral zone and fed it up ice to Wilson, who broke into the zone, beat the defender and put the game out of reach. Caledon 5, Stratford 1 Stratford came to Mayfield looking for retribution for a loss earlier in the season. The first was a sloppy affair with no team dominating or scoring until late in the period. Graham opened the scoring on a power play with a nice backhand from Telfer and Quinn Richardson. With 18 seconds left in the period the Hawks allowed a power play goal to tie the game. The second was another period not dominated by any team until the three-minute mark. J. Stronach set up Pleasance from behind the net with Smythe also assisting. Then it was Telfer with a shot from beyond the face-off circle picking the top shelf, assisting was Graham. Caledon controlled the third and added two more goals. Graham added his second goal of the night and Wilson finished the scoring. Fusco, Telfer, Ledson and Simonetta picked up the final assists. |
