Roth Hawks down foes their last season game

Saturday, Jan. 13 was hockey day in Canada. Roth Diamond Tools minor bantam AE Hawks traveled to Brampton to play their last regular season game.

The first period was fast paced and the Hawks controlled the play to a large extent but no goals were recorded. The second period saw fast and furious end-toend action with Caledon striking first off the stick of James Harkins with the assists from Giancarlo Cianflocca and J.T. Gore. The Brampton crew responded with two goals 17 seconds apart at the two minute mark. Unperturbed the Hawks responded a minute later when James Harkins freed the puck up to J.T. Gore who cruised across the front of the net and deposited a backhander. Eight seconds later Gore and Harkins worked the puck deep into the slot where Michael Magliocchi fired it home to give the Caledon boys the lead. In the third the determined Battalion counted the equalizer at 13:25 while on the power play. Late in a hotly contested final frame it was Cameron Miller digging the puck free for Brandon Richard who found Christian Bonaldi in the slot for what proved to be the game winner.

The game still had some drama as Richard pounded a shot off the cross bar with the net empty and moments later the "G-man" Cianflocca potted the empty net insurance. Nathan Cole backstopped the 5-3 victory giving the Hawks their 20th regular season win. Good luck in the playoffs boys!
