Selects win B title at tournament

Caledon's peewee selects were B division champs at the recent Grand Valley tournament. The Caledon Backhawks peewee select hockey team won two out of three games naming them B division champions with overall 3rd place in the Grand Valley Peewee Rep Tournament.

The team opened the tournament Jan. 7 with a 4-1 victory over Elmvale.

Trevor Moore scored two goals with assists from Lucas Guadagnini and Alex Cammerota. Marco Tacconelli and Mario Lolli added another goal each assisted by Michael Bozzo.

In the next match, the team endured a 3-0 loss against the future 1st place Grand Valley Twisters. The first period remained scoreless thanks to the Caledon Blackhawks' extremely effective defensive line, including Michael Rybka and Mitchell Sheppard and strong goaltending by Drew Eden and John Washington who strived to prevent a goal. Nevertheless, The Grand Valley Twisters were able to score in the second period.

During the following game against Travistock, the team was back in action, with a 4-2 victory. Michael Bozzo led the scoring with two goals assisted by Mike Klein and Zachary Worth. In the third period, Zachary Worth with the help of Chris Sabaziotis and Adam Badner contributed another goal in the win. The final goal, scored with the last 5 seconds of the game, was added by Alex Cammerota. Aggressive and very offensive play of forwards Matthew Nespolo, Lucas D'Acri and Nick Wheeler contributed significantly throughout the whole tournament to team's great success.
