Collision claims the life of Mississauga man

Thursday, Jan. 18, at approximately 10:35 a.m. Caledon OPP officers responded to a motor vehicle collision on Airport Road, south of Patterson Sideroad in Caledon.

Preliminary investigation revealed a Ford Taurus was traveling northbound on Airport Road when it crossed over the centre line and collided with a southbound flat bed truck.

Both vehicles spun on the roadway and came to a stop in the eastside ditch of Airport Road.

The driver of the passenger vehicle, 49-year-old Fiore Isabella of Mississauga, was transported to Headwaters Hospital where he, tragically, was pronounced dead. The male driver of the truck was not injured.

Caledon firefighters used heavy hydraulic rescue tools to free the trapped driver and assisted Peel and Dufferin EMS with patient care. One firefighter assisted EMS to Headwaters Hospital.

Fire chief Brad Bigrigg noted there was some confusion concerning the location of this incident and several fire stations had to be dispatched in order to locate the collision scene. Time is so very critical to survivability in these types of incidents. The community and cell phone users are reminded how important it is to know, whenever possible, the exact location of an emergency when calling 9-1-1.

OPP Technical Collision Investigators were on scene and Airport Road was closed for several hours between Patterson Sideroad and Old Church Road while they conduct their investigation.

Any further witnesses to the collision are asked to contact Constable Andrew Mitchell at Caledon OPP, 905- 584-2241.
